Dallas City Lacrosse will be offering a 5th Grade-only team for Spring 2024 (and 5th/6th in Spring 2025). Spring is the primary season for lacrosse and is open to both new and returning players. It runs for 11 weeks and is designed to be a player's main spring sport.
Practices: 5th Grade trains Saturdays from 10am-11:30pm, and Wednesdays from 5:30-6:45pm (5:45-7pm after Daylight Savings begins), starting February 17th and running through April 24th at Woodrow Wilson HS, 100 S. Glasgow Drive, Dallas, TX 75214. Expect to see training that is structured, but fast-paced and fun. While we still emphasize fun and fundamentals, training will follow a more traditional, team-based training pattern than in K-4th.
Games: While there is never a bad time to start lacrosse, middle school is when girls start to play "real" lacrosse. You will see more girls on the field, more complex offensive and defensive philosophies, and an introduction to stick checking, as well as additional training and games. Our 5th Grade team will play games starting after Dallas ISD Spring Break against other local programs in the Texas Girls Youth Lacrosse League (TGYLL), and end the season playing in the Lonestar Lax Challenge tournament in Frisco, TX on April 27th, 2024.
Dues: Dues for the 2024 Spring season are $495 for ~28 practices & ~6 games plus an end-of-season tournament (~3 games), and practice uniform (reversible jersey, team shirt, game shorts and socks). There will also be team uniforms that must be purchased separately that will carry over from season-to-season through high school (you only replace when outgrown). Players who do not live in Dallas ISD or the Lake Highlands HS feeder zone will be charged an additional $200 fee. DCL reserves the right to limit out-of-district players to 10% of total roster size.
The largest driver in our dues is player uniforms and our paid coaching staff. Additional costs covered by dues: officiating fees, tournament dues, field space and team equipment (goals, balls, etc.). That being said, we are committed to growing the game and do not want finances to be the limiting factor. We offer a $50 Early Bird discount through the end of September, a $50 discount for each additional sibling, as well as a payment plan option at registration. Please reach out to us HERE if additional financial assistance is needed.
Equipment: Mandatory equipment once practice begins includes a girl's stick, a mouthpiece and eye protection and cleats. Please see our new player equipment recommendations HERE.
Format: 5th Grade will play regulation 12v12 (including a goalie) with regulation (6'x6') goals and rubber balls on a regulation-sized field (120 yds x 60 yds), playing 20-minute running halves. We train as a group and divide up into multiple, evenly-balanced teams for tournament play.
Communication: TeamSideline is our main method of communication (this is the same application through which registration occurs). Once the season starts, this app allows you to see the team roster, team schedule and has a message feature for quick updates. Please be sure to download this app to your mobile device and to RSVP your player’s availability for each practice/game. It’s critical information that allows coaches to plan accordingly.
Registration: Spring 2024 registration is now closed.
Dallas City Lacrosse will be offering a 5th/6th Grade team for Fall 2024. It runs for a total of 5 weeks and is designed to work around other fall sports. Fall is a supplemental season and is open to returning players only. We will offer both fall and winter clinics for new players who wish to try lacrosse prior to registering for the spring season.
Practices: 5th/6th trains Sundays from 1-2:30pm starting September 29th and running through October 20th at Glencoe Park.
Games: We will play in a local tournament on October 26th in Frisco, TX.
Dues: 5th/6th dues for the 2024 Fall Season are $125 for 4 practices and a tournament (~3 games).
