Spring is the primary season for lacrosse and is open to both new and returning players. It runs for 10 weeks and is designed to be a player's main spring sport (but we are also understanding of conflicts at this age).
Practices: 1st/2nd Grade trains Saturdays from 9-9:55am starting February 22nd and running through April 19th at Glencoe Park. Expect to see training that is structured, but fast-paced and fun. We teach the sport by breaking the girls into small groups and rotating them to various stations that each teach a specific skill (ground balls, catching, throwing, dodging, shooting, defense, etc.).
Games: Since 1st/2nd is an "entry point" to the sport of lacrosse, our emphasis at this age will be on fundamentals, where training is the priority. That being said, we play games too! Our 1st/2nd Grade teams will play games Sunday afternoons April at our DCL Play Days where we host games against other local programs in the Texas Girls Youth Lacrosse League (TGYLL), and end the season playing in the Lonestar Lax Challenge tournament in Frisco, TX on April 27, 2024.
Dues: 1st/2nd dues for the Spring 2025 season are $295 for ~9 practices and ~6 games plus an end-of-season tournament (~3 games), and program uniform (reversible jersey, team shirt, game shorts and socks). Players who do not live in Dallas ISD or the Lake Highlands HS feeder zone will be charged an additional $200 fee. DCL reserves the right to limit out-of-district players to 10% of total roster size.
The largest driver in our dues is player uniforms and our paid coaching staff. Additional costs covered by dues: officiating fees, tournament dues, field space and team equipment (goals, balls, etc.). That being said, we are committed to growing the game and do not want finances to be the limiting factor. We offer sibling discounts, as well as a payment plan options at registration. Please reach out to us HERE if additional financial assistance is needed.
Equipment: Mandatory equipment once practice begins includes a girl's stick, a mouthpiece and eye protection. Cleats are not required but strongly recommended. Please see our new player equipment recommendations HERE.
Format: 1st/2nd will play 4v4 (no goalie) with reduced-sized (3'x3') goals and regulation rubber balls on a reduced-sized field (60-70 yds x 35-45 yds), playing 12 minute running halves. We will train as a group and divide up into multiple, evenly-balanced teams and play other local programs.
Communication: TeamSideline is our main method of communication (this is the same application through which registration occurs). Once the season starts, this app allows you to see the team roster, team schedule and has a message feature for quick updates. Please be sure to download this app to your mobile device and to RSVP your player’s availability for each practice and game. It’s critical information that allows coaches to plan accordingly.
Registration: Spring 2025 season registration is now OPEN. Please go HERE to register.
Dallas City Lacrosse will be offering a 1st/2nd Grade program for Fall 2025. Fall is a supplemental season and is open to returning players who played Spring 2025 only.
